I have to acknowledge your letter of 15th inst with a corres = spondence respecting the mode in which Chinese Emigration is carried on from Hongkong.
2. Since 1882, when Mr. Sampson
removed the West India Agency
to Canton, there has been no immi = gration of Coolies under contracts
for service from Hongkong to British Colonies, except in 1864
when 1874 went to Labuan. The

is at present confined
